The best thing about doing a Disney race is well, you get a trip to Disney! For the 2013 Princess Half Marathon February 24th weekend, I would again be going with my friend Amy for a 3-peat. New comers Bonnie – a mom from the preschool I work at and Wendy a friend of mine from my long ago days as a single gal was flying in from California.
Amy and I flew in Thursday morning. Love the 1 hour flight from ATL! We arrived at MCO and were whisked by the Magical Express to our Royal Room at Port Orleans Riverside. Our driver Greg was a riot….pointing out alligators in ponds and other resorts along the way “that were nice, just not Disney”. We met up with Wendy in the lobby and it was time for our Magical Weekend.
Our Room was SO cute, so many princess touches and of course the Hidden Mickey Towel. Thanks to Leigh Rosica at Mousekeplanner for an incredible rate and superior service! A Royal Princess Room is perfect for princesses of all ages! Oh and comfy beds and beautiful grounds too.
Day 1 Highlights:
We met up with longhorns2 AKA Patty, whom I know from Disboards and a couple Facebook RunDisney groups at Animal Kingdom. A lover of Space Mountain she had yet to conquer Expedition Everest. I had just gotten over my fear the previous family trip and told her we would all do it together, its now one of my favorite rides at Walt Disney World. Being it was 5pm and the park closed at 7, we walked right on , got off and rode it again.
Rode Dinosaur – seriously not a fan, then went on a Kilimanjaro Safari with a great driver. Being late in the day there were less animals than I have normally seen, but we saw some great ones and again, Walking on the Ride with no wait was AWESOME.

We were getting hungry so we ate at Flame Tree BBQ. Nice quick serve restaurant – I like both the Pulled Pork sammy or the Chicken platter. When in Animal Kingdom I recommend.
While walking out we happened upon Dug and Russell from Disney Pixar’s UP! Had our photo made, but it turned out dark, boo!
We left Animal Kingdom to head over to Epcot for some cocktails and World Showcase Touring. A margarita was requested, so we went of course to Mexico…I steered the group to La Cava Del Tequila – sure you can get Margaritas from the carts outside, but La Cava Del Tequila inside the Mexican Pavilion just before you get to the restaurant has some cool flavors not available outside like Jalapeno and Avocado. We chilled at a table with some guac and chips listening to some dude – he had his face painted like a Tiger, who kept yelling “Its my birthday….” from the bar. They were doing the Tequila sampler and it showed! Wendy had a classic margarita and I sipped it – wow that was a strong one. My Avocado one was good: El Mayor Premium silver Tequila, melon liqueur, fresh avocado, agave nectar and fresh lime juice, served frozen with hibiscus Himalayan salt rim
After our beverages and snack, we rode The Grand Fiesta Tour in the Mexican Pavilion
a first for Wendy. Its like a little taste of Its a Small World mixed with the tourism and fun of Mexico.
Then feeling the need for something sweet since well we had the salty covered, we headed to Germany for some Caramel. Between the 3 of us, we got a Caramel Shortbread cookie, Caramel Apple and Dark Chocolate covered Pretzel stick. What I learned that day was you can get a caramel apple cut up to share. The caramel is so yummy there. We walked out with our treats and finished the night watching Illuminations.
Went back to the hotel and we all called the husbands and families back home….all jealous of our fun filled day. Princess Bonnie was arriving around 11 more fun planned for Friday!
