Cool Medal Races… Detroit Rock City

You know in my mind I have these visions of my athletic self traveling the world to run some cool races….um yeah, I know…and I always seem to end up back at Disney.

I was perusing the interweb the other day and came across this medal for the Detroit Freepress Half Marathon in October.

How bad a$$ is this camaro medal?

Not only does this medal have the coolest muscle car out there IMO, its got homage to Vinyl – listen…. you can hear the crackling of the needle hitting the record now, Motown Microphone reference – “But Dad, It’s SMOKEY” and your basic downtown buildings motor city is known for.

OK, I am someone who “is not into the bling”…BUT seriously, this is one of the coolest medals I have seen!  Very iconic USA you know?

Intrigued I googled the race…. check this out….

HELLO…can you say FLAT!  OK, the hills are up a bridge over the river AND underneath the river in a tunnel….yeah a tunnel.. THAT TAKES YOU TO CANADA!  Hey its a 2 country race.

I know, calm down…..I mean its Detroit…who exactly is jonesing to go to Detroit for leisure?  I have flown into the Detroit airport, but only to drive up to the suburban areas for some sales calls back in the day when I was single….man that was some time ago.

I DO recall that Detroit surprised me, the trees reminded me of Atlanta….. OK the trees in the suburbs, but still…..

Anyhoo, this might be a race to check out for you haters of hills like me.  For 2013….not.gonna.happen….but this race is filed away cuz seriously….I mean I am SO the casual runner and family obligations, well can’t exactly do every race I want you know…BUT….

consider this:

1. Cool Bling – loving the Camaro
2. You run under a river through a tunnel
3. You hit 2 Countries…..

HOW COOL IS THAT!
