With registration approaching for the 2014 Walt Disney World Marathon weekend in January 2014, Disney running circles are abuzz with the unofficial news – OK, serious rumor – that a new 10K race will be added to the weekend AND there is a category of race for called the Dopey Challenge.
In the past, Disney Runners who ran the 5k, Half and Full Marathons over the weekend were unofficially “Goin Dopey”. Some groups even had unofficial medals made up.
Not sure which races will constitute a Dopey Runner officially – but I have seen the pricing as follows:
Dopey Challenge Registration Fees
Walt Disney World® 10K
Looking forward to hearing the OFFICIAL announcement from RunDisney! The above info is out there in cyberspace, but it has not been announced yet. Looking for registration to open in a few weeks.
Wondering if they will add a race to the Princess this year too….stay tuned folks…

Hahaha Jen! That too! Its Disney, because they can… I will say they put on a great race though!

CC, the current GOOFY Challenge which officially exists and includes your half medal and full medal AND a special Goofy Medal. While we don’t know which races constitute a DOPEY Challenge right now, its at LEAST 3 of the races, my guess looking at price of Full ($160) plus Price of Half ($160) plus price of 10k ($160) AND you get a special Dopey medal. RunDisney races are among the more expensive races because of all the extra Disney Magic – characters along the route, Cast Members (employees) in the parks before opening, special Disney touches etc. To compare: RNR Savannah starts $95 for the full, $85 for the half;Diva Race Series start at $75 and go up to 110; the Nike Women’s Half is $160. Is a Disney Race worth it? Obviously I say yes, and the races sell out, so while they are more than most…they offer a unique race experience – even the 5K races run through the parks! The Goofy Challenge sells out and this year in conjunction with the Disneyland Half, RunDisney offered a 10K and a Dumbo Double Dare – run both races, it sold out VERY quickly.

Why so pricey?

Because it’s Disney…if people keep paying, they’ll keep jacking the prices up…
