Lowes Build Your Own Monsters University Chest Experience!

June 22, 2013 by Julie @RunWalkRepeat

Thanks to Beth, I heard about the Lowes Build and Grow your Monster’s University Chest days!

Immediately went online to sign up mini-me for a FREE clinic a few weeks ago.  Today, arrived at our local Lowes:  checked in, signed a waiver and were handed our Box Kit and a hammer.

The kit contained step by step directions (easy to follow), nails, wood pieces and stickers.
Neat little Monstrous package!
Hammer Time! Getting Started with the M…
Almost Done! Watch those fingers – red on index finger was a casualty – ouchie.
Our chest was finished and it worked!
Decorating time….AHHH stickers!

Pink one first of course!

TAA DAAAAAA!

When  completed, we turned in our trash, hammer and extra nails and got a nifty Monsters University Chest Iron on Patch and blank Certificate of Achievement.

Iron on in top right corner above Mike!

We were done within 30 minutes and while I did probably half the hammering – pretty much all of it to get things flush after the finger incident, it was easy enough for me to guide my almost seven year old.  One of the dads commented to both his sons (younger than mini-me) this was the hardest project to date they had worked on, the youngest about age 4 started to cry at one point – cuz it took some power to get the nails flush.

Mini-me was a little disappointed that we did NOT get an apron since we have one from a workshop at the orange place.  I noticed some of the kids had safety goggles which I had assumed like the aprons were from previous projects…..when we turned in our hammer I saw goggles on the counter that were not there when we checked in nor were they offered to us at check in. Its ok… really it is….

Going on the Book Bag!  Mike will always have his eye on Mini Me!

Overall a GREAT experience!  Thanks Lowes for making this a fun way to remember the opening of Pixar’s Monsters University this weekend….now playing at a theater near you!  Check out the Monsters University Website – yes the url ends in .edu!

FYI, there is are workshops scheduled for tomorrow Sunday June 22nd at 2pm.  SIGN UP ONLINE as spaces are limited.  Friends of mine have been able to sign up today, so worth a try.

This was a great way to kick off our Monstrous summer in the RWFR house!
