Last year we had a very special trip to Walt Disney World – celebrating Mini Me’s birthday. We were able to attend for the first time Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP) at Magic Kingdom.

We had a blast at MNSSHP and will definitely go back in the future for another. I have since had many ask me what it was about so here is my spin.
In A Nutshell:
Its a Halloween family friendly party in Magic Kingdom. People wear costumes and trick or treat along with enjoying all the festivities and attractions at Magic Kingdom. The party starts at 7pm on select nights and is ONLY open to guests who have purchased a MNSSHP ticket. Your MNSSHP Party Ticket is your entry into the Magic Kingdom park for the party. You do NOT need a separate ticket to get into the Magic Kingdom. You are given a wristband to identify yourself as a party guest and a treat bag.
I have heard you can get into the park as early as 4pm with your Party Ticket. We arrived early and got into the Magic Kingdom around 5pm with our party tickets. As the party officially starts at 7pm, guests with wristbands are the only ones allowed in Magic Kingdom and those without must leave the park.
Besides the attractions at Magic Kingdom, lots of fun stuff goes on. Here are this year’s activities:
Treats and Trick or Treating:
You are given a bag at the park or you can bring your own. There are designated treat locations where you just hold out your bag and you get candy….the good stuff too! I have to say, they were very generous. There are also 2 Trick Or Treat Trails – basically a few treat stations in each trail. They have some friendly Halloween decorations on the trail…its not scary and not overdone. We had SO much candy, we left about half of it in our hotel room.
Mickey’s Boo to You Parade:
The parade is spectacular – started by the Headless Horseman. Characters in Costume and lots of fun. We are not the kind to wait for a “good spot” kind of park guests and were able to enjoy with arrival just before the start. We went to the second parade which I had read was often less crowded.
The Headless Horseman starts off the parade! So Cool. |
Happy HalloWishes Fireworks:
We watched this special MNSSHP edition of Wishes Fireworks show from New Fantasyland, just at the end of Belle’s Castle bridge and it was truly them most breathtaking display we have ever seen. Really- fireworks coming from all over the place. Even those who are meh about fireworks, like Mr RWFR, will be impressed. The fall and Halloween colors lighting Cinderella’s Castle really added to the atmosphere too- we loved watching it change color.
Villains Dance Mix and Mingle:
Cruella, Malificent, Dr Facillier, Hook and other Disney villains take to the main stage in front of the castle at several scheduled times and perform a show for about 10 or so minutes…them come down to mix with the crowd for photos – they only stay out about 15 minutes and do not sign autographs. Confession we walked by a few times, but never saw the shows…we were ride focused and checking out the new Fantasyland for the first time. Sorry Villains! But it was a VERY popular show and crowded when we would pass by.
Dance Parties:
We finished the evening off dancing to Thriller with Bullseye in the Diamond Horse Saloon, it was a riot. We also danced in Tomorrowland with Goofy and Chip n Dale earlier. A DJ is playing music and you can boogie on down with the characters. The kids LOVED it – OK we did too!
Character Photo Ops:
The park brings out MANY characters you don’t normally get to have your picture taken with like Captain Jack Sparrow and the Seven Dwarfs to name a few. Those lines got long….but cool photo ops. Additionally you can snap some action Dance Shots at the Dance Parties or The Villains Dance Mix and Mingle. We were not about character photos at the party, because the ride lines were SHORT! However we did catch:
AND of course there is merchandise, special treats JUST for the party, a special popcorn bucket too. Plus the park is all decorated.
Our goal and touring strategy for the party was to just take in as much as we could and ride rides.
We did NOT want to spend time waiting for the perfect parade or show spot and while it was fun to see the characters, we did not want to spend time in line. OK, we did wait for Ariel in her Grotto because that is Mini Me’s favorite and we had not seen her in her tail before. Our wait for her however was only 10 minutes. Basically, we did everything we wanted and more!
We closed down the park, and definitely got our money’s worth! It helped us that Mini Me is a night owl….and had no problem staying up until midnight.
While we did NOT play last year, I saw this year, the interactive game Sorcerer’s of the Magic Kingdom has added a special edition game card for the party with my favorite hitchhikers. You can check out where to get it here on Disney Parks Blog along with info about this popular park game.
For ticket info regarding pricing and dates of MNSSHP, go HERE. I am hoping we can go again next year ourselves!
If you want to look into a last minute trip, contact my travel agent Jennifer Greene with Destinations in Florida travel to see what offers are currently available at the WDW Resorts. The free dining offer is only available for bookings through September 15th, however there are also some room only offers available after that date. Seriously, Fall is just the BEST time to go to Walt Disney World crowd and temperature wise AND don’t forget the Food and Wine Festival is going on at Epcot too!

As for MNSSHP let me know if you have any questions…..we sure enjoyed our trip. Have you been or do you think your family would be interested in Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party? Love to hear from you!
