Today started out with some exciting news….
Oh HEY runDisney, I live in the ATL area! I had a dentist appointment at 10 and had planned on doing a long run after that, but NO WAY would I miss the chance to be at a runDisney Meetup – this one sounded like a blast…the first ever runDisney Meetup OUTSIDE the parks!
From Disney Parks Blog:
“If you are going to be in or around the Atlanta area on November 16, pay attention because runDisney is hosting a unique “On the Road to Disney” Meet-Up for 100 selected participants that will be unlike any other we have done. Selected participants will go on a 2-mile fun run through the streets of Atlanta. Naturally, we’ll make a turn through Turner Field, home of our long-time partners, the Atlanta Braves, who play their spring training seasons at Walt Disney World Resort.”
I came straight home with my clean pearly whites and stalked the good old Disney Parks Blog and runDisney Twitter for some news. No cavities by the way! Yay Me.
Just before 11, I started my stalking, with the Disney Parks Blog in one window, generic email on the ready in another. NOTE: I HAD to wait until I saw the Blog Post for the Meetup to be sure I had the correct email address and instructions. Send it too soon, or with the wrong info, you are out.
I kept refreshing the Disney Parks Blog not to miss anything. Around 11:20, my sacrifice of time at the computer paid off the announcement was was posted. A tweet followed this posting by 7 minutes, its always a good thing to have both going on when trying to make a runDisney meetup – you don’t know which notification will be first. They like to shake things up.
I verified I had the correct info on my email and was sending to the right address and VOILA….. faster than Dash my email was sent at 11:20:29am EST.
Then I went on with my day and around 5pm was alerted the list was up
A click of the link of attendees…. AND THERE WAS MY NAME! Woot Woot, My FIRST runDisney Meetup! DisBroad Amy made it too!
I finished my very first half marathon back in 1999 the Atlanta Half at Turner Field with my Galloway group. Here’s my finish photo, if I look a little stressed, well it was you know 1 month til Y2K and it was raining…. But I was so proud of myself.
So 14 years later, I return to the area this time with my runDisney loving friends. I cannot wait!
Thanks runDisney for bringing the magic to Atlanta!

I’m interested to hear about the Disney meetups outside the parks. Since I live in Orange County, CA, the chances of an “on the road” meetup in my area are probably not great. I wonder if the non-park, non race weekend meetups will be easier to get into, considering on race weekends there are so many people in town that those are next to impossible to get into. Congratulations and have a great time!

I am sure with the popularity of the Disneyland races..they sell out FAST, that OnTheRoadToDisney will hit the west coast too! We did crash the site yesterday and I saw lots of people traveling to experience the meetup. I will give a detailed report and of course take LOTS of pics!
