Well only 36 more days until …..
SO excited as I am running runDisney’s Wine and Dine Half with ALL the #DisBroads! The weekend will include checking out the savanna view at Animal Kingdom Lodge from our room, the Osborne Family Lights as we run the race , Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, Epcot Food and Wine Festival AND representing my German ancestors on the race course.
Oh yes, I will wear the Ears and Lederhosen. What could be better? Did I mention I got a beer stein purse to hold my Gu and a Mickey Pretzel to eat along the course? Yep its gonna be epic!
In preparation, I went to run today at my favorite trail….nice and flat and by the river and here is the sad tale of the government shutdown and how it is affecting my running in the ATL.
My beloved FLAT Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area – #Shutdown |
That parking lot is usually hopping with parked cars, so sad its empty. |
In case you hadn’t heard. |
Why YES that is a log just telling you “don’t even think about parking here”. |
Rogue exercise enthusiasts parked on the street. No shutdown could stop their quest for health. |
BUT be warned, reports from my friends in the ATLrunsDisney Facebook Group told me they are ticketing street parked cars. Park at your own risk on the road. |
I actually decided to just go home and run my neighborhood for 3.2 miles. I mean despite the fact I am ALWAYS looking for any reason NOT to get my runs in – yeah weird, because I always feel fab afterwards. I just got it done, hills and all. Oh gravel flat path along the Chattahoochee River I will miss you and pray things can get resolved. There was a 10k scheduled this weekend on this path, its postponed indefinitely since the park is closed.
Fitting as I drove away from this trail, the song “Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the Right, here I am stuck in the middle with you…” came on my classic rock station.
Sigh. AND not trying to get political, just bummed today. This trail is a little piece of heaven for me. Hey, gotta keep training, this old DisBroad is finishing Wine and Dine STRONG – so I can enjoy the party.
Do you have a favorite running trail? Are you able to power through when obstacles come your way regarding training?

So excited for this race. I do have a favorite path that I haven’t seen much of until now. Sorry yours is not available at the moment.

36 days!!!!! Good girl for getting your training in; I’m ready for that after party!!!

Well lets say nagging ankle and calf stuff, this is going to be one slow race! But I will be in great company, plus slow just means you get your money’s worth out of the race fee by stretching it out. 🙂

Wow, I can’t believe Wine N Dine is really that close, YAY!
I didn’t realize until the other day how the government shutdown is even effecting things like running. So sad for those that really look forward to their trail/park runs. I love my runs through the parks near my home but fortunately they are State Parks. Good that you are getting your training in somehow!

At this park, its not linked to all the national parks…you have to pay to park there or you can buy a year pass. My year pass is worthless right now. WAH!!!! Plus its just an amazing place to get out of the city and neighborhood. Oh well sigh….hills are good for me right?
