“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” Sound familiar? Well the first line from one of my favorite books pretty much sums up my weekend….. OK, not worst of times like you know the guillotine or anything – just sometimes life is not perfect.
By and large truly a fabulous weekend. I met several of my DisBroad Friends in person for the first time – that was the highlight. Also stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge for the first time, ran my first night time race – a half marathon no less and completed my first Wine and Dine Half Marathon. Oh I also enjoyed Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party for the first time.
My race costume was a huge hit and a thing: #WineDineHalfStein. I was thrilled to see my DisBroad friends and our Pre-Race Chef Mickey photo in the Facebook runDisney Wine and Dine Half Official Photo Album.

The worst of times? Well the last 3 miles, my calves cramped up pretty bad at times. I was so wiped out when done, I couldn’t fully enjoy the Epcot After party…though I tried. While many had no issues with My Magic Experience and the new Disney MagicBand+ system in testing, my experience less than magical. Granted, I did NOT have park tickets so could not test out Fastpass Plus system and it did work as my door key but that was about all I could successfully add to my band. It was one of those weekends where many little things came up: late flights, misplaced luggage, tickets not registering, things not showing up in my Disney Experience account I had added. This new Disney system is currently in testing – so its not perfect YET. All my problems were met by friendly, courteous and even sympathetic Cast Members helping me out.
TRULY though in the end I had a blast and would do it all over again and wouldn’t need to change a thing. The bad stuff – really no biggie in the grand scheme. I thought, meh, night race not my thing, one and done….today after looking at the photos, Yeah, I would gladly give this race another shot, it was fun and I LOVED the race course.
The good far outweighed the bad and life is not perfect, its all about your attitude. The best thing about the weekend was being with my DisBroads friends; they kept me laughing, singing and dancing…..oh yes, we danced and I had a blast.
I got 9 hours sleep last night – ahhhhhh, and am pouring through the Marathon Photo Pictures for my official recap and I do need to make a video.
Until then folks, its coming, just needed to get caught up on my sleep and get all the photos in.
Thanks runDisney and Walt Disney World Resorts for an amazing weekend.

The DisBoards are AWESOME!!! I can’t wait to read your recap, sorry to hear your calves cramped up – that’s no bueno. I am totally adding this race to my bucket list. Night races seem to be the only kind of FL races I can handle!

I ran the Las Vegas Rock and Roll Half the first year they moved it to a night race and it ranks as one of my worst ever experiences. I have no desire to do a night race again after that. I’m such a morning person, waiting around to run in the evening is difficult. Having said that, I’m sure a race filled with friends, good weather and Disney would be a much different experience! Travel is always filled with irritations. Just remember the good parts and disregard the negatives.
Julie Franklin says
I agree…a night race is a challenge, I want to do it again though. Oh and with the travel, it got comical how things happened…I mean NOTHING was simple and seamless other than room reservation. It was great being with friends old and new and you cannot get too grouchy at Disney!
Summer I says
My first night race is next week!! But at least it has a 5:00 start time for the half. 10:00 is late even for this night runner!!
I agree with Patty, make it happen. 🙂

Working on it summer!

It was a blast! Except for the 9 miles I hated of the Wine Dine Half. Other than that… ha ha ha. It was fun to run with you again Julie! See you real soon in Disneyland! (Make it happen!)
