Running a Race Bandit Style: Race Fees Are For Suckas

March 26, 2014 by Julie @RunWalkRepeat

Yesterday all the running community was a buzz by some crazy ATL blogger who boasted and posted pics of her running last weekend’s Georgia Half Marathon without registering or paying.  She took a bunch of selfies on the course.  I believe this was her homage to some other blogger who did a race with a bunch selfies with hot guys in NYC. Apparently this Bandit style is a thing because the ATL blogger’s post got lots of “You are so fun” “Oh I LOVE this” type of comments. There was even a race director of a local 5k who offered the blogger her free entry to run their race and blog about it – still scratching my head on that one.

I didn’t read the selfie post because quite honestly, I didn’t want to give her site a page view.  The self professed attractive and funny blogger who posted her Bandit Style Race, from seeing comments she posted on her Facebook page, appears to have zero remorse for what she did.  She LOVED all her page hits too.  I don’t get that…but I guess we are all different.

Today, a local running company, Big Peach Running Co. posted this image on their Facebook page which  shows why its just not right to run a race Bandit..i.e. WITHOUT registering and paying the fees.  I don’t know if the bandit ATL blogger will get this, but hopefully for those who MIGHT have thought….oh wow, so much fun.…here’s a few reasons why its just not good.

Go Big Peach Running Company!  Its great info to share.  Thanks for putting this out there and well having such an awesome store for runners and all your community support.

Sometimes life is so – um interesting.  Not trying to add to the drama….but you know that emergency situation, the 4th bullet, I always think of this in big races when I have heard of and seen runners down.

The funny thing though that came out of this, Runner’s World’s Mark Remy’s post on well helping himself to free stuff in a running store. His response to that self professed cute and humorous blogger here in the ATL. Enjoy!  Its hysterical and yes drives the last bullet point home in an entertaining fashion.

So what is your next paid for race?  Mine is The Peachtree Road Race in July, but I think I will do a 10k in June as well for kicks and giggles, just need to signup!
