Grammar Matters – The Double Negative

June 12, 2014 by Julie @RunWalkRepeat

I was enjoying a hot lunch date with the husband at Costco today – yes I know we go crazy with our lunch dates, when this sign caught my attention.  There it was under the CONDIMENTS sign in the food court.   Signs gone wrong:  Whoops, I think they misused the red circle.

CostcoShoppingCartSign

I wonder if the creator of this sign has ever heard of the double negative rule?  Looks like my local Costco’s Food Court will be a roundup for the big giant carts for those enjoying the $1.50 Jumbo Dog and drinking their Pepsi Products.

No Carts in the Food Court Area with the red circle and slash..doesn’t this really say, “OK y’all, go ahead and park your carts in the food court”?  Grammar matters in my world.  Who needs to jostle that churro and ice cream to find a seat around those ginormous carts.

How do you interpret this sign? It made me and Mr RWFR giggle.
