Time to Crank It Up with Jost Running

June 11, 2014 by Julie @RunWalkRepeat

Disclosure: As a Jost Running Blogger, I was provided medals for review at no charge.  Please know that  all opinions stated are 100% my own.

So you didn’t get into the runDisney Star Wars Half series of races at Disneyland which opened up and sold out yesterday in under 2 hours.   Yeah me neither.  Truth be told, I was not interested and didn’t try…. yes, shocking, as a lifelong fan of the franchise.  With me running the full marathon at Walt Disney World the week before, I knew its just wasn’t in the cards for me. Hey it will be there next year, right and despite the fact there will be the special inaugural runDisney bling I am not at all disappointed.  REALLY.  Between travel, airfare and well recovery after my first full marathon, I am good with missing this year’s race but happy for my friends who got in.   Rather than wallow in being sad I decided to get my June Jost Running 5K Virtual Race in around the time registration opened up.

While I am sure the Star Wars bling will be fab, check out the CRANK IT UP Medal from Jost Running this month:

Yeah, its a Boom Box for the Jost Running June Virtual Race Series “Crank It Up”.  Dude, this medal is shiny and FUN! Definitely in my top 2 favorite bling.  Sure I was a child of the 70’s and so into Star Wars but as a teen/young adult of the 80’s I was into one thing primarily….music.   Loved our boom boxes and the bigger the better – hey your Sony Walkman worked for smaller more portable needs.  This medal appealed to me on so many levels and literally squealed in total 80’s fashion when I got it “Totally Righteous!”.   Glitter in the paint gets me every time – keep that in mind for those planning a virtual race.

Putting things in perspective for missing the exciting running news of the day, the cost of the Star Wars Inaugural Medal er Race…. $185.  The Cost of Crank If Up 5k/10k, $25.  Yep that is it and dare I say I have found the quality to be on par with the runDisney medals I treasure.  OK, so you do not get to go to Disney with this virtual race, but think of all the coin in your pocket youa are saving.  Best part, you run your virtual race WHEN you want and WHERE you want.  Usually medals of this size and quality require a half marathon distance at least.  NOPE, with Jost Running you can reward yourself for a 5k, which is great for new runners especially or for those completing Couch To 5K.

How was my 5k Run You Ask?  I waited too long in the day, so I didn’t get out in the humid, hot ATL weather until 11:15am.  Oh and I just ran in my hilly neighborhood….so while I ‘only’ did a 5k, it was not my usual go to flat “easy” course, but I felt I really earned my medal.  I really had to slow down the last mile but hey I didn’t quit.  Here’s an elevation map of my run, I think in my mind its tough – go ahead and laugh if you must, really, its OK.

I started with 5 minute warm up walk and then tried 30 second run walk intervals. The last mile I was zonked, I walked more than planned, but finished and looking at elevation, hey it was uphill, I tried. After done, once I cooled down, I felt great for my effort cuz I hate running in the heat.

NOT a fan of running in heat, but Jost Running's Crank It Up Medal made it worth it!

My virtual race focus  was to just get out there and get the distance done – any way I could.  I gave myself permission to walk when I started as motivation – I talk to myself sometimes!   I have to say my post run “lunch” of a Smoothie with my Source Organic Whey Powder and Pineapple Coconut Water NEVER tasted so good – SO refreshing, #TryItYoullLikeIt.   It was like a Pina Colada…sort off and yes, I like Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain.

Whey Powder, Pineapple Coconut Water, Ice and blend!

I received the Half/Full Marathon Crank it up medal for review as well and while I am not running a half this month, I am going to run a total of 26.2 miles this month to earn it – review is coming on that one.  Another great way to earn your bling, set a monthly goal like that.  I have started doing some pool running during Adult Swim at my pool, even bought Water Socks for my feet last week and next month I want to run the 5k in the pool….over the month of course.  Hey January and the my first full will be here before you know it, time to Crank It Up in my training! These medals are fun motivation and rewards.

If you are interested in Cranking Up Your running, the Boom Box Medal is available through the end of June 2014.  You can feel good about your  virtual race too as  each month a portion of your virtual race fee is donated to charity.  This month its the National Young Arts Foundation.

YAlogoYoungArts Mission: YoungArts identifies and supports the next generation of artists, and contributes to the cultural vitality of the nation by investing in the artistic development of talented young artists in the visual, literary, design and performing arts.

Follow Jost Running on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to keep up with all the news, find out what the next month’s Race Challenge theme will be, see the latest medals and the charities that a portion of race fees will be donated to.   I LOVE promoting Jost Running because they are nice people, have the best bling and they give some of their earning to those in need.
