Ryan Gosling has had me thinking…..
I am scared about the upcoming Full Marathon at WDW in January….YES REALLY scared. I am not exactly speedy you know..and while I LOVE having fun at races, its my particular skill set and all….. a FULL marathon at my speed? Aye caramba, I am wondering if I will make it. And yet, I have this image in my head from the 2014 Princess Half race of Ryan cheering on and encouraging those who were working towards a cure for blood cancers with Team In Training.
I have joined TNT and will be fundraising towards my 2015 Walt Disney World Full Marathon and am dubbing my campaign “Run Walk Repeat For a Cure”. #RyanMadeMeDoIt
I know I know…if you are in the running community you can get bombarded with requests from friends and runners who go this route for races. Please stay with me for a minute ….
I knew I would need support as I went for the distance and have been mulling over many options. Thing is for this race, I want, no NEED a training group for the long runs. I have been toying with the charity race route for some time. Inspired by my cousin Maryann, I picked TNT.
At age 8, Maryann was diagnosed with leukemia, way back in the 70’s. My aunt told me years later, in watching her child battle cancer, she would go take a shower just to have a private cry away from the kids as an outlet to all she was feeling. The good news, Maryann is a survivor and now is raising her own family. The type of leukemia she battled and won via the hard fight is NOW thanks to research is VERY treatable and has an extremely high rate of survival – the diagnosis today is not a likely death sentence or unknown like it was when Maryann was diagnosed.
I am training with TNT and running my race in memory and honor of those who have fought or continue the fight. I want to help find a cure for blood cancers because not every story has a happy outcome like Maryann’s.
How serious is blood cancer? Every four minutes, someone new is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every 10 minutes, someone dies. I am training and fundraising with TNT to do my part in helping find a cure and new treatments for blood cancers like leukemia — the No. 1 disease killer of children — lymphoma and myeloma.
No parent should have to watch their child – no matter what age, fight for their life. No spouse or sibling or friend should have to watch either. Cancer is such a horrible diagnosis, no one should have to endure the treatments cancer patients face. No mother should have to go take a shower with the sole purpose of a place cry in privacy away from her kids, while dealing with fear, sadness, helplessness and the pain in watching their child suffer.
THAT is why I decided to try to make a help find a cure and signed up with TNT.
Besides Maryann, I have had countless friends either diagnosed themselves or with loved ones fighting the brave fight to survive the cancer. LLS is determined to find a cure and that takes money. For all of them, I know what I raise will make a difference to those who hear the awful words “Its cancer.” For them I hope to help make what is a fatal diagnosis to an optimistic prognosis. Thanks for joining me in this quest.
To help me reach my goal $2500, go here to my TNT Fundraising Page. Hey EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS…it adds up. Thanks so much.
Disclosure: This post is not endorsed in any way by Ryan Gosling or Liam Neeson, though I am sure they both want to cure cancer like the rest of us.
