Yes Yes, its late I know, but in honor of Princess Registration day, I am rehashing my 2015 Race. am already signed up to run 2016 runDisney Princess Half Marathon Weekend – going for my third Glass Slipper and my sixth half marathon finish running with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.I can sit back and watch the excitement of registration day and chEAR on my friends as they rush to get before the races fill up for 2016. Here is my Enchanted 10K Recap, the race I had to dig up a super suit but NO CAPES allowed.
I ran this race as an Ambassador of Enell Sports Bras and for disclosure, they paid for my race entry fee. I am grateful to have a super powered sports bra supporting ladies of ALL sizes, keeping us safe from the chafe. Hey, nobody likes the post race painful chafe shower discovery or the bounce bounce bounce! I couldn’t think of a better race to represent my favorite supporting company than the runDisney Princess Half Weekend. I ran the race as Mrs Incredible and I believe that Helen Parr had on an Enell Sports Bra as part of her super suit! Its just that amazing.
Enchanted 10k – Silver and Gold Time:
I am always excited about running Disney with my BRF Patty. We planned on running with 2 friends of Patty’s I didn’t know that well, but hey, when you run a slow race with us, you get to know us. Our goal: have fun. With one of us having a teeny weeny bladder, cough cough Patty, we also had the goal of NOT stopping for a bathroom until we were in Epcot and could use one in the world showcase, cuz ain’t nobody got time for porta-potties.
We showed up to the parking lot as per usual at dark thirty, no really you get up at 3am for these races before the parks open. A DJ was pumping everyone up. We bypassed bag check, aI knew I would love hanging with Diane by her race attire – specifically her shirt paying homage to the recently dismantled hat from Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Its fun seeing friends and making new ones before the race. If you see a photographer in the parking lot before you start the race, its Marathonfoto. Have them take a pre-race picture! Great memories with new and old friends.
We got to the start staging area nice and early to meet up and avoid traffic. Lucky for us they had a food truck with COFFEE and if you have a card attached, you can use your magic band – but heythey take cash too! This was new to me never saw it and enjoyed my coffee. Got to the starting corral and HEY, Jeff Galloway! YES he runs the races too!
We lined up in the corals, goal with a strategy of having fun. To keep it light and rest up for the half the next day, we decided on 15 second run, 45 second walk intervals. The race started and BAM, fireworks for each starting corral…off we went when it was our turn. It helps if you are in a later corral to have someone to chat and pass the time with. Edna and Helen were ready to go!
The first half of the race is on the roads outside the parks, which go by quickly with entertainment.
SNOW…no, not as in Snow White, Disney Snow. Anna and Elsa up on an overpass waving to all of us, yes LET IT GO was playing! #ImagineThat
Our little group would break out into “No. Pee. Til Epcot…..” at random times to the tune of the Beastie Boys because we didn’t want to stop and needed to remind that certain someone she could make it, spoiler alert…she did! Shortly after Frozen fun, we came across the White Rabbit:
And shortly after a LONG line for Tink in winter attire, that didn’t move. AT. ALL. I had sprinted up to that line, uphill I might add to hold a spot for the group. We bailed after a few minutes. Tink, less talk, more photos, umkay?
We approached Epcot via a back Cast Member parking area and came across festive guys on stilts.
We were in the park, still back stage but I found my inner Stacy as we ran underneath Test Track with a gorgeous sky overhead.
We ran into the World Showcase at Epcot and the lighting was spectacular! Its truly a sight as the sun is coming up. Included a couple shots of the crowds below, really its not bad at all during this race compared to the half! THIS is one of the things I love most about this race.
Shortly after our bathroom stop, oh yes, Patty made it to Epcot, thanks Beastie Boys song, we came across our Minnie New Balance shoe loving friends. The pink poof fluff was their own homage to the shoe I exclusively wear to the parks. I think they were waiting for a photo with Jiminy Cricket which we decided to skip. HEY PINK PUFFY GIRLS!
Next up, Marie the Aristocat in France and with no line…. so duh, STOP! Remember we aren’t going to get fasted time so we have fun.
As we exit out the World Showcase gate we see the longest character line ever….my white whale, Royal Minnie. No photos, but trust me it was CRAZY LONG. We did come across Donald Duck by the bakery ….in sports attire.
We enjoyed our time on the Boardwalk, despite the fact the Dance Hall was not open and were thrilled to come across the best chEAR squad ever!
The Boardwalk area is always a booster as people from Beach Club, Yacht Club and Boardwalk Resorts just roll out of bed and step outside to chEAR. Shout out to Sarah, Jane and Laura for being out there as well as our sign makers and #1 chEAR squad: Tania, Amy, Jen and yes, another Amy.
Boardwalk ends and into Epcot’s Futureworld you head for the last leg. Just before the finish, we got a hug from runDisney Mom Faith…..God Bless Her, she was in the finish area cheering on every runner. Love her!
And just like that..we were done, Enchanted 10k #2 on the books. Grabbed our Silver Medals – so pretty, loved the change from last year’s gold ones. For the first time at any runDisney race I have run, they were handing out space blankets to everyone. I forgot to mention it was a wee bit chilly that morning, and these were nice to have. One last photo together with our bling and our race morning was done.
After cleaning up Patty and I hit Magic Kingdom to celebrate, though we had to take it easy as we had the Half Marathon the next morning. We had to get some advice and strategy from Gaston, he was impressed with our medals and gave excellent advice on the perfect pre-race breakfast item.
What do you eat for breakfast to be strong for your race? Six dozen eggs – yeah he stumped us and he said, “Ladies I totally set you up for that one, how did you miss it.” I took his advice and had the quiche for lunch at Be Our Guest in prep for part 2 of the Glass Slipper Challenge – though not 6 dozen egg quiche.
As I walked out of the Magic Kingdom, looked forward to the next time I would be entering early in the morning as a half marathon race participant. The Enchanted 10k was a blast and I knew I would be back to do it again, I LOVE that course. Wonder what the bling will be like in 2016, perhaps the Snowflake will be replaced with a starfish – or fork!
Thanks again to Enell for all your support both on and off the race course. You rock and make a wonderful product allowing many of us to run in comfort and well you are supportive of women athletes of all sizes and paces. FYI, zero chafe after the Enchanted 10k – no surprises in the shower, happy to report. A fun company too…so go follow them on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter!
