Julie is Juicin’

September 2, 2011 by Julie @RunWalkRepeat

Getting healthy is NOT just about exercise, though it certainly plays a part. We have been OD’ing lately on Netflix documentaries…all great.  I am becoming a little obsessed with my poor diet and the onslaught of evidence how a plant based diet can actually prevent and repair things like bad hearts and even cancer.  My family’s history – mom and brother died in early 50’s of heart attack….HELLO, I am about to be 47.

One of the most entertaining food related shows I watched was Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.  Its about a guy who is 100lbs overweight, has an autoimmune disorder that has him on 9 pills a day.  Through his own research he has heard that 70% of disease and illness is lifestyle induced.. poor eating, no exercise, you know the drill.  He decides to go on a plant based diet to see if he can turn around what ills him….he choose to do it on a 60 day juice fast, that is right NOTHING but juice.  Andy and I decided it would be great to get a juicer to try to incorporate getting our vitamins and minerals from veggies and fruit in via some homemade juice….we aren’t fasting, just incorporating juicing into our lives though I am considering a fast as a detox for my body….but that is another post.

Anyhoo, we got our juicer and my daughter was SO excited.

First juice……oh I added a stalk of celery that is NOT pictured.

We tasted each as we juiced it and all was great….OMG, the peaches from South Carolina were shear heaven.

Sarah gave it 2 thumbs up.

Yesterday we had pineapple, peach, celery, apple and carrot.  AGAIN, yummy!!!!  So good.

Today I got brave and decided to try Green Lemonade – Spinach, Kale, Cucumber, Apple, Celery and Lemon…it was WAY more green than lemonade.  Tasted “fresh”.  Not sweet, I def can taste the celery as there were 4 stalks, but I did like it.  I saved 1/2 for Andy to try when he gets home.

SO my plan….along with getting back on the running stick, is 1 meal a day will be juice – with at least 50-80 percent veggies.  I might just get crazy and do 2 meals a day as juice.  Its so good and the Breville Ikon is super easy to use and clean.  Never thought I would be juicin’ but really loving it.

sounds good… I try to make a smoothie a day, but it’d be nice to do a juice a day too. I always like going to Booster Juice.
