Its a beautiful morning – sunny and 60. I PR’d – that is personal record for you non-runners today!
The Outfit:
W*I*S*H Shirt (We’re Inspired to Stay Healthy – my disboards group) and Yellow Team Sparkle Skirt. I had my bondi band, just not for the picture – it was around my neck when I was walking around DOH. I was meeting some people so the brightness of my attire helped…oh and totally worked too – found me easily.
The Race:
Nice little course starting at the top of “mount wilkinson” which is just a big giant hill. Oh its a VERY big hill. Before the race I ran into Dorinda and her friend Kristi along with Mark a friend from many moons ago in my church singles group. I ran by myself, but it was very nice to have some friends to pass the time with before the gun went off to start!
The first mile is almost all downhill. Just before mile 1 is a very short uphill. I was definitely a little winded as man I flew down that hill…OK, I did hold myself back some, but its hard to go slow when its all down hill. When I got to the mile marker, a volunteer told me “LOVE YOUR SKIRT, nice race attire”.
Mile 2 had a big hill in it…..um uphill. The course map said its “only” 1/8th of a mile but man it kicked my butt! I was going for record on this course and was pushing myself, I realized when I started that uphill that I was winded a little, so I power walked most of it. Funny thing while walking up the hill a lady patted me on the shoulder and said “Nice shirt, love the back”. The back says…
I also had 3 runners tell me they loved my skirt as well. And at the end of the mile an older guys told me “Go Goldie”. See its all about the encouragement and recognition.
Mile 3 is 9/10 of a mile all down hill. I ran it – the heck with the intervals I decided! I was going fast too…..its not about winning but man I was passing people which made me smile. Mile 3 was my fastest 10:18, for me that is super speedy! At the bottom of the hill I was wiped, so walked a short bit to catch my breath and then ran across the finish. A couple seconds later I was like oops stop the Garmin!
Great race. Based in my age group 37th place out of 50. I placed 380/530 women. Not too shabby for a middle aged overweight gal. I may not have won time wise, but I didn’t see another sparkle skirt at the race. I think I came in first for sparkliest!
34:28 is my official time, I am very happy. Now to plan the next race.
Vinings Down Hill 5K
Splits: Mile 1 10:19
Mile 2 11:53
Mile 3 10:18
last little bit 1:58 1/10 of mile – um yeah

Thanks Rick! And congrats to you too on your accomplishment of losing over 100 lbs! You will LOVE the Disney 1/2! While I haven’t done that race, I did the Princess last year – it was a blast! Great course with so much entertainment.

Found you from the Disboards.:)
Congrats on the PR! I’m also a huge Galloway fan and run the 2:1 intervals as well. I’ve found that it works well for me.

Thanks Jennifer! Jeff is from Atlanta, we LOVE him here! I couldn’t have made any of the 3 1/2’s I have completed without his training plans. I wish I could join a group, but right now they don’t fit my schedule. WELCOME!
