2013 Princess RunDisney Meet UpThe First Step Is Admitting You Have a Problem…. How I became a stalker

February 21, 2013 by Julie @RunWalkRepeat

I admit it. I am a Disney addict. I love all things Disney, makes me happy.

As the Princess Half Approached last week, Disney Parks Blog messaged that they would be having a special meet up before the race on Friday Morning including:

* A 2 or 3 mile run through a park before opening with:

  • Jeff Galloway
  • Sean Astin  -Goonies, Rudy Lord of the Rings)
  • Ali Vincent – First Female Winner on the Biggest Loser
  • April Holmes two-time Paralympic track and field medalist
* Inspirational talks from the above and nutritionist Tara Gidus
* A cool runDisney shirt
* and possibly Breakfast, a ride on something before park opening, fast pass, park ticket – They always throw in some cool extras.
This is a much coveted and very limited event.  Thanks to social networking I knew my best chance of getting in was watch Twitter for a hint of the day to check the Disney Parks blog and time to sign up all week. I watched and we got teaser tweets about who would be there and to watch.
I devoted much of Thursday Morning and all day Friday to stalking the blog.  We got the Tweet at around 9am to watch the blog later today for details.  It was go time.  I stared at that Disney Parks blog refreshing every 4 seconds most of the day. I was entertained beyond belief by other stalkers in some of my running Disney Facebook groups.  Social media gave us the edge, we knew how they had done it in the past and we were on it. The Disney Parks Blog had a feature on the upcoming Oz movie – we stared at that thing ALL.DAY.LONG.  Jokes were made all day about Oz and flying monkeys.
But it was so quiet on the Disney front- which honestly is strange for them – no twitter no blogs, nothing.  We all joked with each other how crazy we were  to be devoting our time to this  THEN just after 5pm we got a tweet that Villains had learned about the meet up and there would be a delay until Monday.  Yep, lots of disappointed princesses.  I felt kind of pathetic too, I had devoted ALL day to this for nothing.   We wondered what had happened at the RunDisney offices since we were told Friday was the day….I.T. problems?  Issues with Emails? Someone sick?   In Facebook land, we all said to rally on Monday best we could and just went on.
Monday morning I am excited I don’t have to get up so early for school since it was a holiday.  I am awakened by my phone at 6:08.  I had a message from one friend and another  had tried to call me! I rush downstairs and message says “SEND IN YOUR EMAIL! THE BLOG IS UP”.  Yeah, they put up the blog at 2:30 am.  I didn’t think I had much of a shot, but sent it in at 6:16.

Sadly, that was not good enough…they filled the spots before I got my email in…see you HAVE to be completely fanatical for this.

So I was bummed….I thought I had a chance.  Fast forward to yesterday.. (Tuesday) a random post shows up about guess what, seeing the new film “Great and Powerful Oz” Sunday at Epcot for a special meet up.  I send in my email and guess what..I am in!  So the movie poster I completely stared at on Friday hoping for the RunDisney Meet up…I got in. I will now forever associate the Great and Powerful Oz with THIS Disney Race – the 5th Running of the Princess Half Marathon.  I will be visiting the magical Garden of Oz at Epcot, Princess Race weekend for a tour of the Garden I stared at all day Friday and a viewing of the movie.

Well Played Disney, Well Played.  You continue to suck me in!   I just cannot wait!
