Are you a Diva or a Spartan?

July 15, 2013 by Julie @RunWalkRepeat

With rising costs and limited travel days, I really need to branch out of my runDisney addiction. Don’t worry Mickey and gang, I am sure I will do at least one race a year!

There are so many cool races out there – and as I research local races  I found myself wondering……Am I more of a Diva or Spartan?

From the Divas Half Marathon and 5k Series website:

The Divas Half Marathon® & 5K Series is the most fun and glam women’s half marathon series in the nation.  This series is all about girl power. Get glam at one of our races while enjoying a great run in some of the country’s best vacation destinations: SoCal, CA, Long Island, NY, San Juan, PR, San Francisco Bay, CA, DC’s Wine Country, VA, North Myrtle Beach, SC, Miami, FL and Galveston, TX.

Why go for being a Diva?  Well….they have a big honking jeweled medal that spins,  before you finish you can go through the Tiara and Boa Station for a fun finish foto and well they give champagne and roses to the finishers – CHEERS!   Oh and at the finish you get your medal from a shirtless hunk.

Photos from Run Like  Diva Website

You like lots of bling? For those interested in more than one race, they offer a FREQUENT DIVA PROGRAM:
 This DIVA thing sounds promising…..

NOW for the Spartans…. Are you SPARTAN TOUGH?

Have you checked out the Reebok Spartan Race?
SHOW UP! SIGN UP. DON'T GIVE UP! Sign up for a Reebok Spartan Race!

In select cities literally around the world, you can prove your Spartan worthiness in these obstacle outside races.  You have 3 levels to choose from…

The Spartan Sprint 5k…

The Super Spartan 8+ Miles…

AND the Spartan Beast12+ miles..

From the Spartan Race Website:

Spartan Race™, the global leader in Obstacle Racing since 2005, was designed by seven insane ultra athletes and a Royal Marine. If you have tried trail races, mud runs, tough mudder runs, or a warrior dash, it’s time to step up to a brutal Spartan Race obstacle course. You can tackle a Spartan Sprint, a Super Spartan, maybe even attempt a brutal Spartan Beast, but only a few of you will have the heart to graduate up to our Ultra Beast Marathon, an endurance race like NO other. Are you unbreakable?

Why Spartan? Because the Spartans were tough as nails. Why race our obstacle course races? Because we all thrive under pressure, survival of the fittest. Our goal is simple… to get you off your couch, throw you in the mud & trails, and feed you one tough endurance event day that will be the adrenalin rush of your life.

An obstacle course race is designed to test your resilience, strength, stamina, quick decision making skills, and ability to laugh in the face of adversity. We want to own obstacle racing and our unique obstacle course trail races will demand every ounce of your strength, ingenuity, and animal instinct.

Um OK……. I have had several friends brave the Spartan and almost all have gone back for more the next year.

Apparently this race is SO addictive, the offer an Annual Pass.  That is right, pay a fee and you get all the races you want!

Its pretty apparent to me I am more Diva than Spartan.  While I think the Spartan sounds great fun,  jumping from a high platform type of obstacle…not my thing.  Really, it scares me, though I would love to  volunteer at the Sparta Race for the enjoyment of spectator pleasure!

SO which are you?   It do think in most of us there is a little Diva – and even a little Spartan. We all just fall on different areas of the spectrum.

If you want to sign up to get on your Diva or Spartan….I got deals for you!

The Diva Race series if giving away 10 Free Entries for any race they offer….so long as its not sold out. Just go HERE for the details  on how to enter to win 1 of them. This giveaway ends September 13, 2013.

You feeling Spartan strong…. how about 10% off any Spartan Race?  Just go here to register and use the Coupon code “FINISH10” – its valid through December 31, 2013….but don’t wait too long lots of their races sell out.

I would love to run a Diva race, but (I agree) it needs to come to Georgia! I’ve been looking into Rock-n-Roll Series to expand my non-runDisney horizons. It seems like there’s a good few races within a 7hr drive to ATL (including St. Pete, New Orleans, Raleigh & Nashville) because you get extra medals for finishing multiple cities in a year, kinda like runDisney’s Coast to Coast medal.

I wish I lived close enough to do one of the Divas; that looks like a lot of fun!!!

I am hoping the rumors of the Georgia race are true! So close to home. Otherwise I will make a trip to Myrtle Beach…..or San Fran LOL. Life is short!

I would have to go for the Diva side! I enjoy mud runs, but can only handle a few (Ok, one) a year. :0)

Did you see my diva recap?? I did San Francisco and I plan on doing So Cal too! (It’s a challenge, I like challenges)

My husband wants to do a Spartan race, but I don’t really think they are my thing.

Rumor has it they’re bringing the Diva half to Georgia next year! I’m totally down for it 🙂

I did the Spartan Sprint earlier this year as part of the biggest loser run/walk challenge…it was 4 miles and tough! Since we weren’t part of the actual Spartan, we didn’t have to do the 30 Burpees required if you don’t finish an obstacle…I’d like to do it eventually but I got a good taste of what it entails!

Jen, you are truly a warrior! I have heard its hard but fun…especially if you get a team together. I am excited about the Diva…I will def sign up for the Georgia one, schedule premitting though I really think Long Island would be fun as would Myrtle Beach!

I did the Diva up in San Francisco last year and I loved it. There’s a new one in Southern California in December that I’m registered for. I’m a bit skeptical about the area where it’s being held in terms of the route, but we’ll see.
I haven’t done Spartan, but I’ve done Gladiator. That was a blast also. Messy, but a blast

I have heard great things about the Diva and really want to sign up for one. Looks like a blast. The Spartan, looks fun but scares me! maybe I need to face my fears….or work up to it LOL. My Spartan friends had a blast too.
