The Value of Christmas Ornaments – Merry Christmas

December 24, 2013 by Julie @RunWalkRepeat

I grew up in a house with an artificial tree that was always gorgeously decorated.  My uncle was in floral design and worked wholesale and we had some really BEAUTIFUL ornaments on the tree from him.  My grandmother made Christmas ornaments with styrafoam balls, pins, sequins, and velvet.  We LOVED decorating our tree and its always nice pulling out an ornament with a special memory.

One of my favorite ornaments is this Santa I made from a kit with Styrofoam, pins, yarn, cotton and some sequins.  I believe I was 8 when I made this.

Its been a blast watching mini me get into the holidays more and more each year. She LOVES her special ornaments, so much that she created a list if we broke one of her beloved ornaments we would have to pay her.

How much? Well here is how she places value on her favorites.

The most favorite ornament – princesses to remember our first trip to Disneyland $10.99
Ariel $5.02

Baby’s First Christmas $1.50
Jessie and Bullseye $5.00
Hello Kitty $2.01 (future price is right contestant here)

We did loose one Jessie ornament when decorating the tree, somehow Jessie lost her head in the box over the summer.  Poor Jessie, I think that was the catalyst in mini me deciding we needed to put a monetary value on her ornaments.

While mini me’s most favorite ornament memory is her highest valued ornament, what she hasn’t realized yet, you really cannot put a price on your precious Christmas memories.   I see in her eyes the same love of memories I feel when seeing ornaments from my Uncle and Grandma who have both passed away.   To me, THIS makes Christmas magical at our house – those who are no longer with us are remembered on our tree.  Precious memories and vacations are remembered. Sure the ornaments are pretty, but they represent loved ones, joy and happiness on our tree.

I am hoping this Christmas Eve finds you all well and at peace.  May your holidays be full of joy and I wish you all the happiest of New Years!    I appreciate you all for stopping by today and always.  Oh and I am going to be changing things up next year just a tad, its going to be a great year, I can already feel it.

Peace to y’all!

What a great post! I love the ornaments. We too have lots of fond memories wrapped up in our tree. I love looking at all the memories each year! I’m sure 2014 will have LOTS! 🙂

Yep every year is better and better isn’t it. I truly love this time of year because my loved ones that have passed on are still physically with me in our ornaments. I know, what is in my heart is more important….but I love seeing the reminders and all the wonderful happy memories that come with them!
