FastPass+ News: Epcot and Hollywood Studios Ending Old Paper System this Month

January 20, 2014 by Julie @RunWalkRepeat

AND then there were none: next week the Walt Disney World Resort Parks Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be switching to the new FastPass+ system, thus ending use of  paper FastPass completely.  All parks will be on the new system.

Farewell Friend

Disney’s Hollywood Studios will transfer to the FastPass+ system on January 21st 2014.  Epcot will transfer on January 23rd 2014.   The new system allows for  3 FastPasses per ONE Park per day under a tiered system.

Epcot Tier 1 Select 1:
Illuminations
Maelstrom
Character Spot

Test Track
Soarin

Epcot Tier 2 Select 2:
Captain EO
Figment
Spaceship Earth
Mission Space
Turtle Talk with Crush
The Seas With Nemo and Friends

Hollywood Studios Tier 1 Select 1:
Rock N Roller Coaster
Toy Story Midway Mania
Beauty and the Beast
Fantasmic

Hollywood Studios Tier 2 Select 2:
Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular
Disney Junior Live on Stage
Fantasmic
Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage
Muppet Vision 3D
The Great Movie Ride
Lights, Motors, Action Extreme Stunt Show
Star Tours
Voyage of the Little Mermaid
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
American Idol Experience

So there you go….its a whole new era in park tour strategy.

I blinged my Magic Band with Duck Tape, Ready to Swipe for FastPass+ in Style

Walt Disney World resort guests will be able to schedule FastPass+ plus utilizing My Disney Experience online or app in advance.  Non resort guests can schedule FastPass day of park visit once in parks on one of several kiosks located in park.

I continue to remain positive, however, this is so much planning and honestly not my thing.  I hope  the magic through spontaneity is not lost. I also hope we can continue to ride all we love without having to wait in a long line.  I will also be keeping an eye on wait times until my trip in February.

What are your thoughts on this new system roll out?

I wonder what will happen with annual passholders. We still haven’t gotten our Magic Bands and they keep pushing back the rollout date for us. I hope we get them soon because right now we can only use the paper FastPasses.

Seems like if you are NOT staying on property, then you do not get to pick your fastpasses early. Maybe that will change. Have they indicated anything to you guys differently?

I’ve gone both ways. When we got to play with it in October it was nice on the family trip to plan out our days…The planner in me liked that I felt like I have some semblence of control over times. For W&D, I had one experience that made me feel like it I might not like it. As a park hopper I don’t like that I can’t plan for more than one park though and some of the tier options are tough to pick from. I love Soarin and Test Track and can only pick one, same for Rock N Roller Coaster and Toy Story Mania. So all of that to say, I guess I’m still on the fence.

I think for resort guests who do not park hop, its def better…..now if you want to park hop, its NOT better LOL.

We’re not huge ride people, so we haven’t been too upset by it–but the last time we went all the changes weren’t in effect. I’ll be interested to hear how it goes for you next month!

I just hope that this doesn’t turn into what dining has for off property guests, all the good stuff is gone and if I have to wait in a bunch of lines, not worth our $$. But watching hopefully and optimistically!

I love FastPass+ … but we park hop – so we’ve been FastPass+-ing one park, but then getting paper fast passes at the other park(s). I do NOT like the idea that I can’t Fast Pass at multiple parks 🙁

We do not park hop anymore as a family…so hoping that this will not change our guest experience. What scares me is when we travel as a family we do not always stay on site. This affords us to be able to go more often…..sigh.
