To quote the Beatles since I am feeling musical musical: ” I read the news today oh boy….”:
I just heard Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom to discontinue the old paper Fastpass system effective January 14th 2014. Guests will only be able to utilize the NEW Fastpass+ system at Magic Kindgom after this date…actually, Animal Kingdom too.

Disney on-site resort guests will be able to utilize the My Disney Experience online system and apps to pre-reserve up to three Fastpasses per day for one park for visits to Magic Kingdom. These can be updated and changed via My Disney Experience OR at a kiosk located in the park. They will also be able to utilize Fastpass+ schedling at all four parks. Again, only 3 per day and must be at same park. Reserved Fastpasses are utilized through guests Magic Band.
Offsite guests will be able to obtain 3 Fastpasses per day using the kiosk after park entry. Same constraints, 3 a day at one park only. Offsite guests reservations will be utilized through RFID tickets issued, they do NOT get Magic Bands.
The only parks offering the old paper system after January 14th will be Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. After this date at Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom, you will only be able to Fastpass a ride under the new system: My Disney Experience Apps or Online for resort guests and Park kiosks with RFID enabled ticket for those choosing to stay off site.
This scares me, I am NOT a big pre-planner. We take our trips somewhat spontaneously looking at weather and crowds before we go. I fear our way of park touring will not be as enjoyable, but am willing to give this a chance for my trip in February. But got to be flexible, so I feel fine about my trip. I will let you know how it goes and update as I read more.
How do you feel about the switch? Change always takes me out of my comfort zone, but I guess you just have to adapt.

I just don’t pay that much $$ to wait in long lines….we just don’t …..we shall see how this affects things.

I think they are taking away my binkie – I mean paper FP – way too soon. FP+ worked awesome as an addition to paper FP. I just don’t think it’s going to work well for the Disney nuts who are pros at the paper FP system… Disney’s spoiled me, I just won’t wait in a line that’s > 30 minutes, so I’m worried about how I’ll be able to adapt. Especially if you can’t park hop. And especially if you’re limited to one premium FP+ per day in the tiered system. Make me pick between Thunder and Space mountain??? Nooooooo… Sorry, this just worries me.

It’s such an overwhelming change. I do feel like its a little complicated for people and it kinda stinks for park hoppers. I hope it all goes smoothly for you next month!
Julie Franklin says
Yep…hoping its not bad…..we are NOT parkhoppers as a family, so no biggy….BUT for race weekends..I am a crazy parkhopper….just might mean less parks for me, which is kind of sad….but I shall live. I am sure it will be fine LOL

I don’t have any trips planned right now, and I’m kind of glad. I wasn’t a huge FP user, but I liked having the option. With 4 kids I just can’t plan that far out!
Julie Franklin says
Yeah…who can plan out that much in advance?

Its all the preplanning that drives me nuts….we plan but NOT that much…..live by the crowd calenders and weather and we don’t park hop. I am sure it will be fine….but most of the time our family stays off property and well I would hate to NOT be able to do some popular rides, but if I have to stand i line and hour..that is just not a valuable use of my $$….so time will tell!
