Hooray its the last day of school for us…. #RoadTrip!!!!!! Summer is my favorite time of year, I am so lazy natured. I love sleeping in and hanging at the pool with Mini Me. Yes THIS is my view this summer, our neighborhood pool in the woods.
I need to upload some new tunes to chill by at the pool. Thinking about it I came up wtih 5 Summer Songs I LOVE and give you in no particular order five of my favorite “Summer Songs” – songs about summer….kind of sort of. I think there is something for everyone on this list.
1. Summer Time by DJ Jazzy Jeff and Will Smith
“Pop in my CD and let me lay a rhyme, sit back and cruise cuz its Summertime! “The laid back song captures what I love about Summer, great vibe, fabulous lyrics.
2. Summer Lovin’ from the Grease Soundtrack”
“You hauled your cookies all the way to the beach for some guy?” Simple lyrics, fun beat you can dance to – boys sing, then girls, what fun song. I always remember my sister with this song who went nuts over Grease and singing along with the Juke Box when I was in high school before it got taken out of the cafeteria….what was that about? “Wella, wella, wella…..huh!” Go stroll and drink some lemonade this summer, would ya…just stay OUT from under the dock or you could get a reputation.
3. What Time Is It from High School Musical 2
Who doesn’t know that feeling of staring at the clock the last minutes of school, when you have pretty much mentally checked out. This fun song makes me bop and sway and sing along, yeah that is me in the Mini Van with this song blaring. “What time is it, Summer Time….Schools Out Scream and Shout”. My favorite line, “No more waking up at 6am”….can I get an AMEN?
WARNING: THIS WILL BE LOUDLY PLAYED AS I PICK UP MINI ME ONE LAST TIME THIS SCHOOL YEAR! Sing along moms!
4. “In The Summertime” by Mungo Jerry.
“Have a drink, have a drive, go out and see what you can find”. Um please don’t drink and drive this summer or anytime. This fun little 70’s diddy is the original Happy Song I think. Classic 70’s song with a long lasting life in its simple lyrics that can’t help but get you to nod your head to the beat or sing along “Da Da Da DA…dee dee dee dee…”.
5. The Boys of Summer by Don Henley
I have always loved this song and in my crazy youth been known to change the lyrics. Yes, another song about summer love with this one lasting beyond baseball season. Back in the 80’s MTV played this song over and over….. I do love the message, “don’t look back you can never look back”….Yeah, just keep moving forward! I thought I knew what love was in my youth too, but did I : NO! Those days are gone forever, but I will always associate this song with my days at Ga Tech, good times GREAT friends.
