Finally earned a half marathon medal this month! I participated in the Beat the Heat Jost Running July Virtual Race Series and earned 2 medals. One as reward for my Peachtree Road Race 10k efforts July 4th and one for my Half Marathon Pool “Run”.
No secret, I hate running in the heat. Even my slow paced Galloway intervals are not my friend in the heat and humidity of a Georgia Summer. I much prefer lounging by the pool, it is called the Lazy Days of Summer right?
Half Marathon Pool Run:
I saw the Jost Running Bomb Pop half marathon medal and knew I wanted to earn it. In my current shape, it wouldn’t be happening on the road or at the gym’s treadmill. I spend lots of time during the summer at the pool, and thought what a great way to earn – running in the deep end for about time it would take me to complete a half marathon. I know this is not the same as DISTANCE running in the pool, but it worked for me and got me off my butt during Adult Swim to get moving. I used the very generous 15 minute mile pace an plopped myself in the deep end and using a waist belt, “ran”. I had to complete this exercise 14 times to complete my half and earn this medal which is da bomb – finally did it yesterday!
The folks at Jost are into encouraging people of all fitness levels to get moving and earn some bling as a reward. The pool idea came to me last month when I realized I was not getting in my running and spending alot of time at the pool, just watching my daughter in a chair. Thanks Jost folks for reminding me I can earn my medal any way it takes for me to get moving! Hey per the results I am sure to be DEAD LAST FINISH, you know what, I don’t care…just happy to be moving again.
10k Race Medal:
For my 10k Jost Race this month, I opted NOT to purchase the medal at the Peachtree Road Race because quite frankly last year, I was underwhelmed. When I saw the Jost 10k race, I knew THAT was the medal I wanted to remember this years race – recap here, it was fun. About half way through the race, some kind spectator offered me my favorite southern summer snack…quite refreshing on the race course too, um NOT a peach, but still my favorite summer fruit.
Sparkly, bright and shiny the July Bling was a ray of sunshine for this finisher and a reminder of the generosity of those wonderful 150,000 race spectators! So its not a peach, I have no problem with that.
Look, I take the Peachtree as a very social race… I stop chat with spectator friends, enjoy the whole vibe. As probably the most fun race I run all year, this fun medal is a great reminder!
July Beneficiary:
Each month the Jost Running Series theme and medals change as does the charity that Jost supports with their race series. Proceeds of this month’s entry fees support Girls on the Run.
The mission of Girls on the Run is to “inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.”
As a mom to a princess who loves her electronics, its wonderful to see Jost Supporting Girls on the Run through coaching AND donating a portion of race fees to this organization. Hey I am all about finding joy and having fun running too! And lookie, the back of both of July’s medal is a great reminder of who you helped support!
