A Farewell to Disney’s Hollywood Studios Backlot Tour

September 24, 2014 by Julie @RunWalkRepeat

Backlot Tour FarewellYesterday I posted the lated update on Walt Disney World Attraction Closing and Refurbishments. While the closing of Maelstrom at Epcot’s Norway Pavilion has been met with protests, it seems as though the closing of the Backlot Tour at Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been met with relative calm and quiet.  DHS has become one of our favorite parks, we love that tour. To say goodbye, I wanted to share some photos I took on our last trip of things I love about that tour. I give you Farewell to Disney’s Hollywood Studios Backlot Tour.

The theme  of today’s Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop is Seasons, I suppose this is the Season to say goodbye.  Yes a stretch I know. AND, I know not so wordless either. What can I say, I am feeling sentimental.

Back Lot Tour 7 Back Lot Tour 6 BackLot Tour 5 Back Lot Tour4 Back lot tour 2 Back Lot Studio TourI have loved learning about special effects, seeing the props and wardrobe room, the thrill of the flood and tanker fire, backstage peak of Lights, Motor, Action Extreme Stunt Show and a great view of the Streets of America.  One of the highlights has been viewing American Film Institute memorabilia and photos from the classics.

To The Mouse, Walt’s Airplane used in scouting land in Florida for Walt Disney World and more, you are cleared for takeoff.  Thanks for the memories. Looking for clear skies ahead with the Pixar Place expansion.

Mom and I have often talked about how a lot of the attractions at WDW feel tired. I’m glad to see them refurb-ing some but I will certainly miss some of the classics. I always enjoyed the Backlot Tour but it’s not something I would ride again and again. I’ll be curious to see what they put in its place.

We ride it for the rest…LOL…and love the stuff at the end. I get it, they want new and exciting gotta compete with Harry Potter…but also I love old stuff.

I enjoyed Backlot Tour – I was picked to be in that opening scene with the water and it was a ton of fun! But I think not many people have talked about this one closing because Disney has been letting it go for awhile. Everyone knew it was just a matter of time.

Love your take on the theme! I will miss the BLT! It’s been a family tradition to ride it with my family since out first trip. It was educational and fun entertainment for the whole family regardless of age or abilities. Thanks so much for sharing your tribute to the Backlot Tour!

I had to…such a fun attraction on so many levels, but I suppose when you aren’t running at full capacity most of the time, time to reassess. Hopefully they will bring some of this to other areas of the park.

I loved the Backlot Tour! Of coarse, I worked at the Animation Tour right next to it for several years. I’m glad they’re doing a Pixar area because I love Carsland at DCA, but I’m a little disappointed that The Studios will no longer be the experience of learning about film making.

Its really a nice break from the craziness that can be a hot crowded day. LOVED learning about filmmaking, maybe they can do something somewhere else on a smaller scale. I agree that this was a fun part of the park experience. I am sad its going away.

I loved how the costume tunnel had the disco ball during Wine and Dine. Wondering how that will affect the race.

We did this tour once. Glad I got to do it before it closed. I didn’t know Pixar Place was expanding. Thanks for the info!

This tour has always been a way for us to get out of the sun and just relax in DHS. We always enjoy looking at the props! Yeah I know could be more exciting, but hey, we loved it. Can’t wait to see what comes next!
