New Awesome Running Mix, Come and Get Your Love

October 14, 2014 by Julie @RunWalkRepeat

Awesome running mix

Yesterday the family finally saw Guardians of the Galaxy, yeah, I know we were long overdue, but the benefit, almost empty theater.  Mr RWR was a fan of the comics, so he knew the story; Mini Me and I were well newbies going in. We all loved the movie -what’s not to love about a band of misfits coming together to fight evil to save the galaxy. A movie first for us, Mini Me actually teared up at one point, awww. I found a new awesome running mix . I came home and immediately downloaded the Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack).

The music was a critical part of Peter Quill aka  Star Lord’s character as it was his connection to his past and his mom. Chris Pratt did an amazing job on screen showing appreciation of the 70’s AM Gold songs which were on a mix tape from his mom to him  “Awesome Mix Volume  1” , some of his mom’s favorite songs.  Y’all remember mix tapes? They were truly an expression of love when you made one for somebody and a way to give someone a little of yourself with your love of the songs on the mix. I loved that aspect of this movie so much, as I loved the mix tape.

Turns out, me and Star Lord’s mom have the SAME love of  70’s music, truly the best decade I tell ya.  Check out the playlist which I copied from marvel.com:

  1. “Hooked on a Feeling” Performed by Blue Swede
  2. “Go All the Way” Performed by Raspberries
  3. “Spirit in the Sky”* Performed by Norman Greenbaum
  4. “Moonage Daydream” Performed by David Bowie
  5. “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” Performed by Elvin Bishop
  6. “I’m Not in Love” Performed by 10cc
  7. “I Want You Back” Performed by Jackson 5
  8. “Come and Get Your Love” Performed by Redbone
  9. “Cherry Bomb” Performed by The Runaways
  10. “Escape (The Piña Colada Song)” Performed by Rupert Holmes
  11. “O-O-H Child” Performed by The Five Stairsteps
  12. “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” Performed by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell
movie trivia
TRIVIA: I read that 2 songs were used in filming and ended up on cutting room floor: Magic by Pilot and Living Thing by Electric Light Orchestra – DOH, I love me some ELO. Two other songs considered for the film with Glen Campbell’s “Wichita Lineman” and Three Dog Night’s “Mama Told Me Not to Come “, however Bowie’s Moonage Daydream was used. A great choice as this soundtrack has all genre’s of the 70’s covered.  Truth be told 2 songs are from the 60’s, but hey that’s how we rolled back in the day.
I am out for 3 miles today listening to downloaded Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)for the run. These songs bring back memories and make me happy.  If you want a CD and download, Amazon has that as well for just one dollar more than the download only – how our mini van is old school, no MP3 connection, surely we are not the only ones.

I have always loved soundtracks and happily added this on to my collection. Will be a great one for road trips too!
Have you left a movie and immediately wanted to purchase the music? If so which ones?  Did you like Guardians of the Galaxy?

I loooved this soundtrack, I think it made the entire movie! And I still make “Mix Tapes” for all my RunDisney races for my BRFs… mailed my girls a Tower of Terror 10 Miler Mixed Tape a month ago 🙂 PS: It’s a CD. That I write “Mixed Tape” on. Because I’m old school like that.

I loved mix tapes so much. I need to make some playlists for myself, no new ones in a while. And your friends are super lucky! I would love a new mix from a friend to shake things up.

Absolutely loved this movie. The beginning was a tough way to start though. I have a slight Groot obsession at the moment.
As far as the soundtrack, it’s a fave. So many great songs. Oddly enough, I don’t have it yet. But I do want to get it. The soundtrack totally set the vibe for the movie.

Ha ha! I love this! I can’t imagine working out to 70’s music. Well, maybe anything by Olivia Newton John. Is that 70’s? I love 80’s music too. Best soundtracks from all those John Hughes films.
