Hop On In The #PinItForward Movement

March 10, 2015 by Julie @RunWalkRepeat

One thing I enjoy most about blogging is the people I have met on the blogosphere. This past September I attended the Type A Parent Conference, a conference and network for Mom and Dad bloggers. I got to hang out with some of those wonderful bloggers In Real Life, especially Didi at :DISTherapy. I have “known” Didi for many similarities: we both run, we both are not the type to win our age group at races, we LOVE all things Disney and well we are um, how to say, older. Didi and I were discussing our takeaways from the conference and from there she hatched the #PinItForward idea.

Inspired by the Key Note speaker Thom Singer about the power of building your community with valid and true relationships Didi reached out to me to talk about coming up with a way we could support and help out each other. And not just me supporting her and vice versa, but what if we created a movement that encouraged others to share some great pins and content and EXPECT NOTHING IN RETURN. No follow me backs, just the idea this is good stuff and I want to put it out to my people. And so the #PinItForward movement was born.

It’s simple. There is SO much great content and ideas out there. #PinItForward its just a way to share some good work of others. Didi stated it so well in her #PinItForward post:

Does it shine a light on a cause you believe in?  Pin it.
Did it make you smile ear-to-ear?  Pin it.
Do you know a new blogger trying to step into the blogoshere?  Pin it.
Have you found a remarkable piece of writing?  Pin it.
Does it feature a noble fundraising effort?  Pin it.
Was it written by someone that you admire?  Pin it.
Know someone experiencing a particularly difficult time?  Lift them up and Pin it.

That is it. If you remember to use the #PinItForward hashtag on your pins, that is nice too, but never required.

And the hop, its really just saying, hey, “count me in”.  Pledge below to #PinItForward.  Once a day, once a month, focus your spotlight outward.  Expect nothing in return.

That’s an awesome movement to be a part of! It takes so little but could really make someone’s day if they see your pin. I’m not on Pinterest much, but if I get into it again I’ll try to remember this movement!
