Wecome to my blog! I am a 46 year old mom of a preschooler who is always trying to get in shape.
Seems like I have been a size 12 my whole life, though let me tell you, Size 12 is much bigger than they used to be.
I took up running in 1999 and completed the Atlanta 1/2 Marathon. I have never considered myself a runner and I am slow. I joined a Galloway training group and was introduced to the world of Interval running where you run some and walk some – to give you body recovery time. I finished that 1/2 and did another a few months later on Tybee Island and then I just stopped running – like Forrest Gump.
Fast forward to 2010 – I was in the Outdoor Fit bootcamp – great group by the way, and the trainer Chris asked me if I had ever thought of doing another 1/2. Well I told her I was not a runner, but darned if she didn’t plant a seed. When I ran years ago, I had signed up for the Disney 1/2 with my boyfriend at the time. Long story short, we broke up after the Atlanta 1/2 – Nice guy, just not THE ONE. I never ran that race, though they did mail me the shirt.
I heard about the Princess 1/2 Marathon in Orlando which ran through 2 of the parks and was a women focused race. In July of 2010 I decided to try again. This time I decided I really liked it. Sure I am slow, even some have questioned “How can you run that slow”…well its better than sitting on the sofa! Its my only time completely alone. I have my handy dandy IPOD with my interval reminders app and music – it tells me when to run and when to walk. I started out with Couch to 5K and realized I REALLY like walk breaks, I don’t need to run….
SO I trained and despite a bad case of Plantar Faciitis, I finished the Princess. My foot is finally feeling better so signed up for the race again in 2012.
This is my story of preparing for it an other road races…. of all lengths UNDER 13.1 miles…no desire for a full marathon here! And hoping to keep my feet healthy, which means I need to work on my body – core, legs, back, shoulders…its all connected.
I have enjoyed following others blogs so decided to give myself some accountability and share my journey. Lace up some sneakers and join me.

I am going to the race with some mom friends. We did our own thing last year but this year my speedy friend Amy says she wants to run with me which will be fun and keep me moving a little faster I think. Good luck PrincessRunner! Keep me posted on how you are doing. Take it easy…

JULIE! Sounds exactly like my own story, plus one year! I too am 42 and signed up for Princess 2011, didnt go….Did 12 miles mid Nov, my first 5k on Thanksgiving Day…At that point I knew I COULD do it…..didnt run another day until Feb 2011, ironically, week before I was supposed to run the Princess. Well,,,, those days are over, I have now signed up for the PRincess 2012, and I WILL be there too! I also started a blog called Princess1/2orbust at the time as well, didnt write one word after that Thanksgiving race. So! Lets go! I will keep watching your progress and commenting so you know I am still on mine too! Will you be going solo to the race?

I feel like I’ve been a size 12 forever too. Even when I think I’m getting in better shape I still only manage to fit into a size 12. I look forward to following your training for the princess, I can’t wait to run it again!
