I don’t have a weight loss goal for this month or year, but I know if I exercise and eat clean, the weight will take care of itself. I am not a big scale follower these days, but I do realize weight and body fat is important as an indicator or health. See I can obsess about it that number on the scale and it can really bring me down, not a good thing.
I got on the scale yesterday, Aye Caramaba. Talk about an eye opener – Highest.Weight.Ever. I should NOT be able to fit in the same size I was in 10 years ago when I was a good 35 lbs lighter. And yet, I am….sad news, they must be sizing clothes differently and I have been blindly going along. Of course I got off the scale and then back on like six times thinking surely this is wrong. Nope same reading again and again.
Thinking about how I did on my plan for January so far:
So far my running has been on track…though I sure have gotten slower. My eating had not been perfect until yesterday….and it was on spot clean – thank you scale readout for that message to get on it 100%. My daily exercise yeah, missed a day already, but with this high number in my mind, I have new motivator.
I don’t want to discount the importance of knowing where I was on that scale yesterday as it lit a fire under my large derriere. I was happy that it didn’t set me into the type of self defeating depression that could only be comforted with sweet or savory processed snacking. Yay me. I made a sign that is by my scale and will be placed on floor before each weekly weigh in – oh and if I see myself getting cray cray on the scale numbers, I will change weigh ins to monthly.
I just need to stick to my plan day by day, one moment at a time. Its simple really, yet for me not easy, but its about my health and that number does need to drop. Maybe I will throw in a 30 day challenge again to at least work on my core daily, even a few minutes at a time. It all helps me grow stronger and healthier and THAT is what is really important. The scale number, its just a snapshot – and NOT the enemy, a friendly reminder to stay focused on my personal road to success.
Are you intimidated by the scale? Do you get obsessed about numbers like me? Love to hear how you help stay on track.

I just finished writing a blog post about this for tomorrow! I’m right there with you – I can’t focus on the numbers on the scale too much otherwise I will drive myself insane. So I need to focus on the steps I can take rather than the number that DOES NOT DEFINE ME. We can do this!!!

Its funny when I was doing Weight Watchers they were adamant about DON”T get on the scale during the week, it can be sabotage. there were ladies in that class who did NOT want to know the number, they just wanted to know plus or minus and THAT number each week. I always thought that was interesting!

I love the sign! I, like the ladies above me, have to be careful with the scale because I become OBSESSED. Any weight gain depresses me, and when I’m depressed, mac & cheese happens 🙂 I try to weigh once a month, and pay attention to how my clothes fit and how I’m feeling.

Allyson…exactly what I need to do!

I have a very unhealthy relationship with the scale. I am either like Patty, obsessive, weighing in up to 2 or 3 times a day, or I don’t get on it at all. I’ll go months not getting on a scale, but once I do the obsession kicks in again.

Ha ha me too summer…that would be me as well. I haven’t been on a scale in a year…YIKES…not good.

I’m so over the scale it’s not even funny. I used to weigh every day, twice a day. Then I realized for me, it’s not about the number but about how my clothes fit, so I quit checking it. Now I try on my jeans every day. Twice a day. KIDDING! (kinda… lol) Hang in there J. I’m with you on this- highest weight for me too non-prego. And I checked- yep, still not prego!
Julie Franklin says
Yeah….I think monthly is optimal.

I’m completely obsessed with the scale, which I know I really shouldn’t be. I mean, I’ve been up 2 lbs before but just for one day because of what I ate the day before. I know it’s not healthy to weigh every day, but I can’t help it. I definitely have numbers I want to get to with weight loss, and I want to be at that number, not going by how I fit into my clothes. It might not be the best mindset, but it’s how I work!
Julie Franklin says
I get that way too….and I am trying to focus on just getting my tasks done this go round so when I am up a pound or 2 because I had something too salty or didn’t drink all my water I don’t freak out and spiral downward. WHATEVER WORKS LAUREN!
