runDisney Marathon Spectator Viewpoints – Marathon, Donald Half Marathon and Princess Half

January 8, 2015 by Julie @RunWalkRepeat

Getting my family ready for the Marathon.  Below is the info I gave my husband for suggested spectator viewpoints and to prepare for the traffic changes due to road closures that could impact time to get to and from some parks due to the race.

At Walt Disney World races Marathon weekend,  the Half Marathon is the same course as the Marathon for the first 8 or so miles, so the first chart works for Marathon Weekend at Walt Disney World – for the full and the Half and Princess Half Marathon.  The second chart is specific to the Marathon only and picks up after the first chart. Charts were taken from runDisney Online Event Guide for 2015 Marathon Weekend.

*Accessible During Park Hours Only

There is a disclaimer that all bags will be inspected so please don’t take any unnecessary bags with you to spectate. Also be prepared for delays and crowds if you are trying to move from location to location come race day – whether car, bus or monorail ….spectators can have a race all to themselves trying to catch up with runners.

I created a spreadsheet for my family based on my pace and estimated start time of 6:13am and a 16 minute mile average. Start time is based on last year’s start for my corral – this is really an estimation, not sure what time I will start or if I can go a little faster, but I can’t go any slower:

Mile Approx Location Approx Time
1 Epcot Drive 6.29
2 World Drive 6.45
3 World Drive Magic Kingdom Parking Toll 7.01
4 Ticket and Transportation Center Magic Kingdom 7.17
5 Just Past Contemporary Resort 7.33
6 Magic Kingdom Entrance to Liberty Square 7.49
7 Floridian Way, After Poly, Before Grand Floridian Golf Course Road 8.05
8 Floridian Way  After Seven Seas Drive 8.21
9 WDW Speedway Track 8.37
10 Bear Island Road Somewhere between MK and AK 8.53
11 Bear Island Road Somewhere between MK and AK 9.06
12 Conservation Way near train depot 9.22
13 Animal Kingdom Guest Entrance 9.38
14 Out of AK, Far End of parking Lot 9.54
15 Osceola Parkway Road to Wide World of Sports Complex 10.1
16 Road to WWOS past World Drive 10.26
17 Road to WWOS 10.42
18 WWOS Softball Fields 10.58
19 WWOS 11.14
20 Outside of WWOS 11.3
21 Osceola Parkway to Disney’s Hollywood Studios 11.46
22 World Drive to Disney’s Hollywood Studios 12.02
23 Streets of America Backlot Tour area 12.18
24 OUTSIDE of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Path to Boardwalk 12.34
25 World Showcase Between UK and France Running towards Mexico 12.5
26 Leaving Front of Epcot to Finish in parking lot! 1.06

I signed up the family for running tracking so they will be emailed and texted when I pass certain points on the race.

This is my first race they are coming to at Walt Disney World. I just want to see them at the finish, and if they don’t try to see me in between, really I am good with that, they will know about where I am.

How do you prepare your family to spectate?
