May is Women’s Health Month, a month to remind us ladies to put our health in our own hands: get checkups regularly, eat healthy food in moderation, exercise, take vitamins…. take care of the body you have. Its just that simple, right? But sometimes we all need a reminder and a Women’s Roadmap to Health can surely help.
At the beginning of the month I realized I was over due for my annual physical, yes that happens doesn’t it, got it scheduled and done last week. Yay, health check!
Sadly, my results were not what I wanted; my cholesterol is high. For someone with a family heart history such as mine – mom and sibling died of heart attacks in early to mid 50’s, that is not good, not good at all. No surprise on the results though as my last physical I was borderline high. My blood pressure was high too and well, it is forcing me to look at my diet – and I mean what I eat on a daily basis, not how to loose weight with no filters to get my blood pressure back down in a healthy range. Honestly I was scared when I saw the results, but I did laugh at what else I have to look forward to at my age:
Yeah good times I hear! But its very important, compared to the alternative….. I think it is worth the time and effort, though not looking forward to this, but bright side, only every 10 years! Hooray for a healthy colon.
My brother and mom were very slim in build and could eat whatever they wanted without really gaining weight – um, that would NOT be me. Sadly, years of poor eating choices and smoking were havoc on their cardio systems as they literally dropped down suddenly with heart attacks and no warning. My brother was terrible about seeing a doctor and checkups too. Both died very young in early to mid 50’s an age I am approaching now. I want to get all my checkups so I can best approach life with the information I need to best take care of myself for ME and my family.
The folks at Oscar Insurance reached out to me with some really important information to share this Women’s Health Month: The Women’s Roadmap to Health, a timeline on when you need what checkups and tests for optimal health for ALL ages. Its good stuff ladies take note.
Sure the sight of this an other instruments:
Might make one a little nervous at a wellness visit or checkup BUT preventative care is surely the best way to go. So many loved ones depend on us and 30 years later, I am still missing my mother everyday. We owe it to ourselves to have healthy and happy lives to take care and be proactive in our health. And remember the preventative care goes hand in hand with exercise and a heathy diet.
Disclosure, I do not use Oscar Insurance but I thought this information was too important NOT to share, so if you like this chart and are shopping around for insurance, check them out fully.
Are you behind on any of your checkups? PLEASE take care of that now.
