This year I have committed my self to a Smoothie Diet, a meal replacement Protein Smoothie or two a day. I need to work on my blood pressure and weight, though I know if I take care of my heart through healthy diet and exercise, then the weight will work itself out to where I need to be. The change a meal program at Smoothie King for 2016 fit right into my plans I had discussed with my doctors last fall, but never fully committed to. I know, stupid to find you you have high blood pressure and get a plan and then not do it. Well that has changed as in 2016 I will #changeameal as Smoothie King’s #changeameal campaign as it fits right in with what I had researched and discussed with my doctors last fall. I am committed to get back to a healthier me.
Last year, I was told by both my primary physician and my GYN because of my high blood pressure and weight gain over the year(s), I needed to do something. You can see a big difference in me and photos the last couple of years. Both my doctors recommended a diet low in processed foods, low in sugar and my primary doc told me I needed to lean towards vegetarian meals any time I could with my families heart history. WHAT vegetarian? I like vegetables, fruits and nuts but was concerned I would find a away to do this and you know actually enjoy what I was eating. See I needed to be happy about what I was eating because I am an emotional eater and well when I am not happy I tend to look for wings and fries.
I thought a Protein Smoothie would be a great idea for a meal since I liked them and could easily add greens. I prefer organic whey, but also switch it up with minimally processes plant based protein powders out there. Greek Yogurt is another fave of mine to up the protein. I experimented with finding some recipes and blends I liked, but I decided as I rang in the new year, my bad habits from last year of quick fast food would need to be replaced and I committed to one or two smoothies a day, healthy snacks and a healthy dinner. My goal to eliminate processed foods whenever possible. I mean I can shoot for 100% but realistically, I know sometimes that is not easy, so 90% is my goal to allow for life. This was all before I was invited by Smoothie King to #changeameal campaign by the way. When I reviewed the 20 replacement meal smoothies available to me when out and about, I knew I needed to give it a try.

I am in love with the Vegan Mango Kale Smoothie! When I am on the go, there is no easier way for me to fill up on plant based protein, fruits and vegetables, and yes almonds. This smoothie not only tastes great, but is a nice rich texture that fills me up and allows me to drink slowly. Another favorite is the Skinny Almond Mocha Protein Smoothie.
I just get hungry running errands and the quick choices I made last year were horrible – very little nutritional value, high in calories and fat. Hey, I have been a fan of sweets for meals, now I found healthy ways when I am out to enjoy my meal while feeling like I am being decadent with a shake or tropical drink – though this is not your grandma’s daquiri, shake or frozen coffee delight! I am trying to keep my smoothie meals around 300 calories and I have several options! For the same price as a meal at a fast food place, I can get a filling smoothie chock full of what my body needs to help me make my health goals – and it tastes GREAT!
I have been on my smoothie change a meal the past 2 weeks. I have very natural sensible snacks and a healthy dinner. I need to work on the exercise though still. Sigh. For the most part I have been good, oh there has been some wine here and there and yes, I did margaritas and Mexican fare with friends Friday, but happy to say I am down 4lbs in two weeks and have noticed that my junk food and and bread cravings are gone. My goal this year is to get my blood pressure to normal and to drop 30 lbs, averaging 1.5lbs a week. Smoothies are most definitely working for me so far, both at home and out at one of my local Smoothie King locations when I need a meal and am short on time. Plus no mess to clean up with the Smoothie King smoothie, LOVE that.
